Ever the Icon, Marilyn was very much and still is, a hollywood icon. Everything she did and everywhere she went, was photographed and whispered about and consumed like wildfire. Her taste in clothing and jewelry and drinks and foods were reported far and wide. Men followed after her just to catch a glimpse. Everything about Marilyn was open to the public. She was and is, ever the Icon.
To her jewelry set: I ended up making something that actually celebrates her as a simple and beautiful woman rather than an American Icon. Marilyn was not known to wear gaudy or heavy jewelry when she was 'at rest'. Everything she wore was simple and delicate. I wanted to represent that, rather than the Hollywood image that we have been given. The photo shown of Marilyn was an early one taken before the pressures of life hit hard. In it she appears to be exactly what she was, an innocent but desirable woman. So, I chose to imitate that. The set I made looks a bit like a wedding set in its simplicity yet delicate beauty. I chose to include a darker shade of pearl to indicate the inner depths of her character while the lighter shade of pearl imitates her iconic side. The white jewels are a play on her movie, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" in which she sings "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend"

I think this suit Marilyn well. It looks like it is a long necklace? If so it takes her in to our time and she was a trend setter wasn't she? Women from that time always seemed to wear tight fited neclaces. Once again you have done a great job
Its not a long necklace, the longest strand sits right above a scoop neck shirt. If that helps. Tight fitted necklace were big back then yes, (seems I incorporated that part just fine with the other pieces huh? ) and while I would agree that she would wear that style, this image here, [link] , suggests that she liked looser fitting necklaces as well. So...I guess you could say I combined both styles? Thank YOU once again...because once again you gave an incredible comment.
I am relieved to hear you say that. I was sort of hesitant to release this one, because when I asked for ideas, everyone was either very different from each other on what it should look like or they were very adament on what it should not and should have on it. I am just happy that somehow, I managed to create a piece that pleased everyone so far. Thank you so much for your words and for your help. I believe you were one of the ones who gave me some of the ideas? Anyway, thank you deary.
I love the subtle color change as the beads travel in the middle.
I like the subtle shift in color as well. I think thats what makes it 'Marilyn' to me.
